In the summer of 1978, Universal Pictures released National Lampoon’s Animal House. The movie which portrays the exploits of the members of the disreputable Delta house fraternity at fictional Faber University, was filmed at various Lane County locations in 1977. Although it garnered mixed reviews from critics upon release, Animal House became one of the most popular movies of 1978. Fans and critics alike deem the movie one of the best comedies of all time.

Cottage Grove, OR
40 years later, the community of Cottage Grove is celebrating the movie with “the World’s Largest Toga Party!” Downtown Cottage Grove was the location of the homecoming parade scene and several interior shots for the movie were also filmed in Cottage Grove. The community is proud of its involvement with classic movie productions (e.g., Buster Keaton’s The General filmed in 1926) and continues to celebrate these great movies. During the 25th Anniversary celebration of Animal House in 2003, the community of Cottage Grove established the Guinness World Record for the World’s Largest Toga Party. This record was eclipsed by an Australian University in 2012. Cottage Grove wants the record back!
